Unfortunately more vandalism https://thefourth.org.uk/unfortunately-more-vandalism/ Tue, 09 May 2017 20:31:08 +0000 http://thefourth.org.uk/?p=343 We were once more visited by vandals over the evening of 8th May 2017.  Cubs ended around 8:30pm and by 7:30pm the following day we had discovered one of our boarded-up windows had been ripped off and the remaining glass smashed in (along with the internal boarding) covering the hall with broken glass shards and gravel.

Thanks to the team of leaders and committee members who stepped up to re-board the windows and to the local constabulary who attended the scene and removed some items for examination.

Vandalism of the 4th Oxford Scout HQ https://thefourth.org.uk/vandalism-of-the-4th-oxford-scout-hq/ Mon, 18 Jul 2016 10:56:25 +0000 http://thefourth.org.uk/?p=315 We have been the unfortunate recipients of some unwanted attention from the local vandals who have smashed the small window into the girls toilet and thrown through in some large lumps of concrete smashing the toilet bowl.  This has put the girls toilet out of action for the last week of our summer term, but we are still going ahead with meetings as planned.  Volunteers have cleared the glass and smashed toilet from the corridor and we have sealed off the toilet until we can get someone in to replace it.  The window has been re-boarded up.

If you spot anything suspicious around the Scout Hut please could you contact the local police on their non-emergency number of 101.

New academic year, new challenges https://thefourth.org.uk/new-academic-year-new-challenges/ Thu, 27 Aug 2015 16:33:51 +0000 http://thefourth.org.uk/?p=297 As all of the sections of the Fourth Oxford Scout Group prepare to return after the summer break there’s lots to look forward to.

For Cubs 2016 is a very special year.  The Wolf Cubs were formed in 1916 so in 2016 we are celebrating the Cub Centenary.  There are special events, fun days and a County Camp planned (Cub-Fest).  We are also well into planning our Group Winter Camp where all sections of the group camp together, this year at Youlbury once more.

Most sections still have some spaces available so if you have a child who might be interested in joining Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers please drop us an email or pop along on our regular meeting night to find out more.

We shall remember them… https://thefourth.org.uk/we-shall-remember-them/ Sun, 09 Nov 2014 20:00:22 +0000 http://thefourth.org.uk/?p=277 Cubs and Beavers from the 4th Oxford Scout Group joined parishioners at Cumnor Church of England Church for the service of Remembrance on Sunday 9th November 2014.   In all 18 young people took part in the parade and service.  A Beaver and a Cub laid the wreath on behalf of the Scouts alongside those of the Royal British Legion and the local community.  The Beavers paraded behind their colour (flag) to the church with the Cubs following behind their colour.  All flags were presented at the alter for the service and then collected in time to be lowered for the National Anthem.  There were many offers of congratulations for all the young people who took part for looking smart and showing respect for those fallen soldiers.  We are proud of all of them.  The Royal British Legions presented the Cubs and Beavers with special Poppy badges to be worn with pride to commemorate the event.

The Scouts were also out on parade and took part in the Ceremony of Remembrance at the Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery in Botley.

Each cub participating earned their Athletics badge and all five of our cubs also managed to score enough points to earn their Athletics Plus badges too. Not only that, but the group picked up the gold and silver medals in the 50m running races so well done to Mikey and Tommy for that too.
